Artist - Art Centre Agreement
If you paint for an art centre, it is important that you
understand what the art centre should do for you.
The way that an art centre operates varies from community
to community.
Some art centres pay part of the money to the artist up
front. When this happens the art work belongs partly to the
artist and partly to the art centre.
Other art centres ask artists to pay for their paints and
other materials. This money is given back to the artist when
they bring the work in to the art centre for sale or the
work is sold.
Some places just take the work and put it on display. When
the work sells, the artist gets paid.
In some communities art centres pay artists with CDEP and
the artist may get some extra money if the work sells for
more.
No matter what sort of system is used at your art centre,
it is important for you to understand what is going on.
It is also important that art centres know what should happen
to art work when someone passes away.
A contract like this one allows the art centre to sell your
work and look after things like copyright. In return, the
art centre pays you for the work, looks after the painting,
writes the documentation and keeps financial records about
the sale of the art work.
This contract is only for work done for art centres, not
private canvases.
