Aboriginal art centres

Desart is the peak arts body for Central Australian Aboriginal Arts and Crafts centres and we have over 30 members.

Our member art centres are community-based enterprises, owned and governed by Aboriginal people. They provide economic, social and cultural benefits.

We are committed to supporting Aboriginal art centres, which provide autonomy, sustained growth and stability for Central Australian Aboriginal Communities.

What we do

Our programs support art centres on the principles of ‘culture first’ and industry best practice.

One Mob, One Voice

Advocacy

We advocate and are a strong voice for our Aboriginal art centre members by representing them on external boards, committees, art fairs, research and conferences.

Strong Business

Business Support

We promote best practice management of art centres through our Strong Business Program, the SAM Database and our annual Desart Conference. We also support art centres to acquire and maintain infrastructure and resources.

My Job, My Learning

Training & Employment

We increase employability and career pathways for Aboriginal people in the arts through our Aboriginal Art Worker Program and advocacy work.

Our Art, Our Culture

Promotion & Marketing

We promote Central Australian Aboriginal arts and culture through Desert Mob, Art Centres on Screen, the Desart Photography Prize and targeted marketing and advertising.
